The Basic :: Hungarian Language Course
Overview of the Hungarian CourseThe Hungarian Course is divided into two volumes. Volume I contains units 1-12 and Volume II contains units 13-24, many of which are composed of dialogues, supplemental vocabulary. The course assumes the student has no prior knowledge of Hungarian and is fully self-instructional. This means that while an instructor/native speaker would be helpful, it is not imperative to learn Hungarian with this course. Volume I contains 24 CDs and a 278 page textbook or 1 DVD with all lessons on MP3 with the textbook in a PDF file format. Volume II cotains 26 CDs and a 348 page textobook or 1 DVD with all lessons on MP3 with the textbook in a PDF file format. Unit 1: Greetings: Hello, Good Morning, Good Evening, How are you? Do you speak Hungarian? Unit 2: Conversation while meeting in Budapest Unit 3: Going shopping? Buying a suit Unit 4: Shopping for Herend China, dealing with numbers, currency and dishware. Unit 5: Invited for dinner, introductions to family and friends Unit 6: Going to the bank to cash a check Unit 7: Asking the neighbors to borrow.... Unit 8:Meeting arriving family in Budapest, they arrive by train in Vienna Unit 9: Visiting friends and talking about work Unit 10: Booking a ticket on a train Unit 11: Conversation about trip to Budapest on train Unit 12: Talking politics Unit 13: Going to a restaurant Unit 14: Talking about the weather Unit 15: Conversation about children attending school Unit 16: Moving into a new apartment Unit 17: Getting sick with a cold Unit 18: Talking about a newly purchased car Unit 19: Going to court after a robbery Unit 20:Going to the barbershop Unit 21: Asking questions about Hungary Unit 22: Having a drink and talking about the symphony Unit 23: Working in politics Unit 24: Getting help with background history of Hungary The Hungarian Course is written to provide students with the basic structure of spoken language and a vocabulary to make limited practical use of both the spoken and written language while in Hungary. The course is intended to be colloquial, and emphasis is placed on idiomatic use and proper pronunciation of the spoken language. However, it also provides grammatical notes and instructions in the use of written language. Each unit includes a set of basic sentences, notes to the basic sentences, notes on pronunciation, notes on grammar, transformation drills, variation drills, vocabulary drills, translation drills, response drills, conversation practice, and additional situations that are brief descriptions that promote free conversation. >
